Hi, I’m Jillian Barnes, Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
I’m the founder of Solace Therapy, LLC and earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johnson & Wales University, right here in Rhode Island.
I have experience working in a variety of clinical environments, including outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings. Throughout my career, my focus has largely been working with women, adolescents, young adults, foster parents, and those impacted by the child welfare system. Across these populations, I’ve been honored to support individuals impacted by trauma—an experience that has deeply shaped my understanding and commitment to trauma-informed care.
I have had the privilege of compassionately guiding clients through a variety of life experiences, including navigating anxiety, depression, low self-worth, major life changes, and the complexities of relationships and family—among many other challenges.
I believe in the power of being truly witnessed in sharing your story and the importance of reconnecting with your strengths. My approach is both compassionate and practical. I view you as the expert in your own life—my role is to walk alongside you as you clarify your goals, restore your sense of self, and build skills that support your growth.
In our sessions, you can expect a collaborative and solution-focused process. I provide tangible, evidence-based tools tailored to your unique needs so you can feel more equipped to manage challenges outside of the therapy space. Together, we’ll work toward real, lasting change.
Finding Solace during life’s most challenging times is my hope for all of my clients.

Investing in your mental health:
-
I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and Aetna insurance plans. Clients are responsible for any co-pays, co-insurance, or deductibles determined by their plan.
Please check with your insurance provider to confirm your mental health coverage and any out-of-pocket costs.
If you have questions about payment or coverage, feel free to reach out—I'm happy to help clarify!
-
If you choose not to use insurance, I offer a self-pay rate of $150 per session.
Some clients prefer to self-pay for greater privacy and flexibility. Self-pay allows you to:
Keep your therapy sessions private without insurance involvement
Have more freedom to focus on what feels most important to you and for how long
Avoid some of the limitations that insurance plans may have
If you're unsure which option is best for you, I'm happy to discuss what fits your needs and circumstances.
-
I understand that everyone’s financial situation is unique. To help make therapy more accessible, I offer a sliding scale based on income and individual circumstances.
If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss options. I’m committed to supporting your journey in a way that works for you.
